“I recently gave FreeWill a test run and updated my own will and directives. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the tool is to use. Another big plus was that all my information is completely confidential,” said Archbishop Christopher Coyne. “I highly recommend this tool as a great free resource offered by the Vermont Catholic Community Foundation that not only makes updating your will easy but ensures your choices regarding Catholic advanced directives and funeral instructions.”
Legacy gifts are an increasingly important factor in helping the Catholic Church in Vermont meet the ministerial needs of the Diocese. Planning an estate gift allows you to strategically accomplish both financial and charitable objectives. For many people, these consist of preserving the family name, honoring loved ones, and minimizing tax burdens, while leaving a legacy of faith. This includes enhancing and sustaining vibrant parishes, ensuring faith formation through Catholic schools, youth ministry, evangelization, and lay initiatives, and serving the many critical needs of the disadvantaged throughout the state. Bequests to VCCF are exempt from estate taxes.
Why choose the Vermont Catholic Community Foundation?
The mission of the Vermont Catholic Community Foundation is to support and serve the apostolic activities of the Church and to make grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the Diocese that reflect the compassion of Christ in their service to the most vulnerable. Legacy gifts made through the VCCF support the larger Catholic community and allow you to designate your gift to a specific ministry of the Diocese, your parish, or Catholic school.
Setting up a Legacy Gift is easy, and often, it only takes a small amount of effort on the part of the donor. This can be done by a simple bequest in your will specifying an amount or percentage of your estate that would benefit a specific Catholic ministry, school, cemetery, or parish fund. You can also designate a beneficiary to receive a gift from your IRA, 401(k), or other retirement plan. Other gift vehicles include conveying appreciated securities, naming the VCCF or your parish as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, donating real estate or personal property, or creating a charitable trust. Including Catholic advanced directives as well as your funeral wishes in your will makes it easier on your family and prevents unnecessary headaches and heartaches.
JOIN THE LEGACY SOCIETY
Naming the Vermont Catholic Community Foundation in your will allows you to designate your gift to a fund or establish a fund for a specific ministry in your name or in honor of a loved one. It also gives you peace of mind that your intentions will be followed in perpetuity. By notifying us of your gift through a bequest, a charitable trust, life insurance, or other planned gift, you can join other legacy society members around the state who have made this special gift of faith. Regardless of the size of your estate, a will directs how you want to have your personal assets distributed at the end of your life and has a lasting impact on the ministries that matter most to you.
